Social Media Marketing

A Puppet's Ramblings - from Chip Martin, Mannequin American Marketer

Social Media Marketing Must Have Calls-to-Action

Traditionally, B2B marketers were responsible for generating leads. That role hasn't substantially changed with the advent of social media.

Yet many social media purists reject the notion of using any part of social media to directly impact sales. But no matter what these experts say, your company still needs to bring in new customers. So a significant part of your social media efforts should be aimed at generating leads. And to accomplish that you need to make sure you have calls-to-action (CTAs) as part of all the content you create.

The best example of a CTA is a link at the end of a blog post that offers a reader the opportunity to learn about a topic from you. Many B2B companies go through the trouble of creating a blog and sharing the links through their social media profiles, but never provide a way to convert those visitors into leads. That's a huge missed opportunity.

For example, if you'd like to see my promotional video, click here. Then hire us for a distributor meeting, employee function or awards banquet. Or pass a link on to someone you know.

New Fragrance Promises Arousal

From AdRants: Reality star and former America's Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry comes to the rescue of scrawny men who, like those classic Charles Atlas body building cartoon ads of yesteryear, always get their girl stolen by the beach bully. But Curry has a good heart and a soft spot for scrawny geeks. That or she's getting a lot of money to fake it while wearing a super hot angel outfit complete with the requisite cleavage-enhancing, plunging neckline and, yes, wings.

The fragrance was recently launched on social network CrowdGather and contains a combination of pheromones which are said to have been clinically proven to increase feelings of arousal, excitement, social warmth and friendliness in both men and women. (I'm excited just reading about it.)

Curry will serve as the official face of Erox for upcoming social media and online advertising campaigns which will include a series of videos and comic strip parodies that poke fun at mainstream culture, characters and events.

Every Piece has a Story

"Every Piece has a Story," says the headline in this furniture manufacturer's ad. I don't know if they're talking about the couch or the model.

Vintage Ad

Newt Gingrich may appreciate this 1968 ad for Lestoil. According to the headline, "Women of the future will make the Moon a cleaner place to live."

Topless Tobogganing World Championships

The annual topless tobogganing world championships are just two months away. And I figure any sport that has a "World Championship" deserves some publicity on this blog. In fact, the competition's Norwegian organizers believe it's time for the sport to get its own national arena.

Fans of the half-naked sliders have flocked to Laukvik, in the Arctic Circle, for the first two editions of the contest. In 2010, some 500 people watched bare-chested Norwegian sledders barrel down the village's hills. A year later, 1,000 spectators looked on as 30 entrants tumbled semi-clad through the Arctic snow for the inaugural World Championships.

"It's quite incredible considering there are only 450 people here in Laukvik," said championship architect Sten Hansen. While he harbors hopes of the village securing national arena status, Hansen conceded this remains something of a pipe dream. "We're some distance away from recognition as an Olympic sport," he said.

Hansen, the self-styled "topless general", expects the number of participants and spectators to set new records when the tobogganists disrobe for this year's competition on March 17th.

For the first time, the competition will include categories for the fastest women and men, as well as a special mention for the best winter body. Facebook page: Topless tobogganing World Championships (in Norwegian).
